About the Product
Laura Mercier Real Flawless Feather Matte Powder Foundation (54 USD; Made in USA) - is described as a weightless powder foundation with a soft matte finish. It promises to control shine, smooth the look of the skin, and improve skin texture over time.
PACKAGING
A light-pink sleek compact made of plastic. Inside you get a high-quality mirror and a flat sponge applicator. In total, you get 7.6 g / 0.26 oz of product. This design is portable and easy to work with, though it does not feel the most luxurious.
Recyclable ♻️
Shade: 1N Marzipan
FORMULA
This is a skincare-forward formula with an impressive use of skin-loving ingredients. The Real Flawless Feather Matte Powder Foundation also has more color pigments, compared to other powder formulas from the brand.
😊 PROS
You get a good variety of beneficial ingredients such as Glycerin (humectant), Sodium Hyaluronate (hydration), Caprylic Triglyceride (emollient, softens the skin), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (derivative of Vitamin C, antioxidant), and Alaria Esculenta Extract (seaweed, hydrates the skin). Additionally, there are a lot of texture-enhancing boosters, which should help with oil absorption, blendability, blurring, and more.
☹️ CONS
While this is a generally safe formula, some ingredients (namely Silica, Boron Nitride, Zinc Stearate) may not be complementary for extra-dry skin. Zinc Stearate in particular, as well as Camellia Oil, may be pore-clogging and mildly comedogenic.
Personally speaking, I did not face any adverse reactions while using the product.
Shade: 1N Marzipan
TEXTURE
Pressed, finely-milled powder. Smooth to the touch, yet with a bit of kick up.
SCENT
None.
SHADES
Currently available in 20 shades (split into cool, neutral, and warm undertones).
COVERAGE
Light, neighboring light-medium.
APPLICATION
Similar to most powder foundations, an ideal way to apply the Real Flawless Feather Matte Powder Foundation is with a soft sponge applicator that comes with the product. Use patting motion and apply as little or as much powder as you prefer.
If your skin is on the drier side, make sure to exfoliate and hydrate beforehand, as this formula can accentuate texture and appear blotchy on an uneven surface. Generally speaking, I would advise following the less is more rule with this product. I find that it looks best when you use it sparingly.
FINISH
Matte. Although the powder does not appear chalky, when over-applied can lean towards cakey.
WEAR
Even on dry skin, the Real Flawless Feather Matte Powder Foundation feels weightless and comfortable. It does survive sweaty workouts and slight humidity without creasing.
It has a duality to it though: there is a tendency to settle into larger pores, but at the same time, it will glide perfectly over less textured areas of the face.
Verdict
Though I don't often use powder foundations, the Real Flawless Feather Matte Powder Foundation turned out to be one of the nicer products in said category. While there is a learning curve with this formula and it requires more skin prep than I would normally need with other Laura Mercier powders, there is still time and place for it. If you have oilier skin and want a pressed powder with added coverage, that is still natural and light, look this way. However, if you have drier skin and deal with texture, you would need more effort to truly finesse this product. The finish is not always flawless, which means I would rather reach for the Ultra-Blur Translucent Loose Setting Powder instead. Between the two, the latter is an absolute winner in my eyes (though it has no coverage). Overall, a nice product that could benefit from more in-between shades. I give it a B- rating.
