The original line debuted in 2002, and two decades later, it is still one of the most recognizable bullets in the designer makeup world. What is it that makes this product so iconic?

Dior Addict Shine Lipstick (48 USD; Made in France) - is a refillable lipstick that promises long-lasting hydration, high color payoff, and shine.

PACKAGING

The lipstick features an iconic inverted twist-up bullet design crafted from high-quality materials. The Addict Shine Lipstick has a nice high-end feel to it with its recognizable black and silver design. The cap is interchangeable with decorative fashion cases, which are often released as limited-edition accessories sold separately. The shade names are usually printed on the bottom of each bullet. Each lipstick contains 3.2 g / 0.11 oz of product.

FORMULA

The brand states that the formula is composed of 90% naturally derived ingredients. Essentially, we look at a premium emollient system, commonly seen in high-end lip products. This includes a combination of Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate, Squalane, Dimer Dilinoleyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Stearyl Heptanoate, Stearyl Caprylate, and Trimethylolpropane Triisostearate that contribute to a pleasant sensory profile and cushiony feel.

😊 PROS

The Addict Shine Lipstick contains several film-forming agents that help pigments adhere, improve transfer resistance, and extend wear time. A blend of waxes (Sunflower Seed Wax, Beeswax, Rice Bran Wax, Jasmine Flower Wax) helps ensure smoother application, comfortable wear, and hydrating feel. Lastly, you get a nice mix of antioxidants (Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propyl Gallate) and emollients (Squalane, Plum Seed Oil) that protect and hydrate.

☹️ CONS

This is a fragranced product. Personally, I did not experience any adverse reactions while using this lipstick. However, those sensitive to fragrance in cosmetics may prefer to choose fragrance-free alternatives.

TEXTURE

A balmy, creamy consistency that feels smooth and buttery.

SCENT

The Addict Shine Lipstick has a sweet, delicate scent that sits in-between floral and gourmand. The fragrance is subtle, not overwhelming, and fades quickly after application.

SHADES

The collection currently includes more than 20 shades. While Dior Beauty describe the color payoff as intense, to me they come across as sheer (buildable to a light-medium coverage at most). Many shades contain finely milled, light-reflective shimmer or glitter particles.

APPLICATION

The Addict Shine Lipstick is one of those makeup products that you can easily apply without a mirror. The lipstick glides smoothly across the lips, leaving a creamy, hydrating veil of color. I find that this formula looks great on its own or paired with a lip pencil (should you want more definition).

FINISH

Naturally glossy. Although not the most high-shine lipstick that Dior Beauty offer, it still delivers an even and radiant finish once applied.

WEAR

The Addict Shine Lipstick lasts up to 5-6 hours on its own. The lipstick’s wear time is affected by eating and drinking. Ideally, you would need to re-apply it after having a meal. The formula feels comfortable, moisturizing, and lightweight. Even after it fades, lips still appear soft and well-nourished.

Verdict

Dior Beauty have been making waves in the beauty industry for decades and the Addict Shine Lipstick continues that legacy. If you are looking for a lipstick that is both effortless and chic, this could be the one. To me this range has more of a youthful, playful character to it. Compared to the brand's Rouge Dior lineup, which feels more sophisticated and refined, the Addict Shine Lipstick maintains more of a joyous identity with its delicate array of colors and unique customizable cases. Overall, this is a modern and luxurious lipstick that gets an A from me.
