About the Product
Nars Afterglow Tempting Eyeshadow Palette (49 USD; Made in Canada) - is a limited-edition, high-performance eye palette. The color story is described as "lavender haze" and it includes nine brand new shades.
*The price may vary depending on the retailer. Current stock availability can be found at the end of this post.
Packaging: a portable, baby-pink plastic compact with the rose-gold Nars logo printed on top of the lid. You get a high quality mirror and nine eyeshadow pans, weighing 1.7g / 0.06 oz per piece. On average, the brand offers more product than many comparable high-end palettes at this price point. The Afterglow Tempting Eyeshadow Palette is well-made and travel-friendly.
Recyclable ♻️
Formula: the brand cites using pure eyeshadow pigments to create this palette. The Afterglow Tempting Eyeshadow Palette is formulated without parabens, alcohol, mineral oil, and fragrance.
😊 PROS
Glycerin, Squalane, Tocopherol (Vitamin E) are great skin-loving ingredients that will condition and protect the skin. The formula also contains hydrating, natural marine extracts (Sea Water, Red and Brown Algae). As for the rest, it is pretty much a mix of emulsifiers, stability agents, texture enhancers, and Mica (shimmer).
☹️ CONS
Unless you are sensitive to a particular ingredient present in the palette, you should experience no irritation or side effects. Other than that, there are no cons that I have observed.
Scent: fragrance-free.
Finishes: there are three major formulations present in the Afterglow Tempting Eyeshadow Palette - matte, metallic/shimmer, and (pressed) glitter.
Texture: the quality of all nine shades is consistently well-formulated. These are rich in pigment with buttery smooth texture. Be it mattes or glitters, you get an equally satisfying sensorial experience. There is a bit of kick-up with matte shades Unwritten and Haze. Aside from that, these textures mix and blend well together.
Shades: the brand describes the Afterglow Tempting Eyeshadow Palette as an assortment of orchid, rose, and tan shades. This is a lovely combination of spicy neutrals with a touch of diamond dust (Love Me Not), blue-brown duochrome (Feeling It), and soft lavender (Haze).
Follow Me, a matte, has ultra fine specks of purple glitter running through it. Shade No Lies although mostly metallic, is filled with a beautiful array of silver shimmer. Love Me Not is the sparkliest of the bunch; a diamond-like, icy glitter.
Sweet Nothing is almost identical to the iconic Space Cowboy by Urban Decay (vegan version), where the latter has a bit more of that warmer base vs. true nude base used by Nars. Feeling It is quite similar to Solstice by Urban Decay. And knowing that both were made in Canada, I suspect it could have easily been the same manufacturer.
Application: brushes work best with mattes, however, switch to fingertips for the sparkly shades application. This technique will guarantee the best outcome. While using a glitter glue is not necessary (these shimmers and glitters adhere quite well to the skin), I would still recommend an eye primer.
Wear: true to Nars fashion, you get a solid high-end eyeshadow experience. The Afterglow Tempting Eyeshadow Palette stays put for up to 6-7 hours and with an eye primer it shows minimal fading or creasing. The shimmery shades get sparklier the longer you wear them. Although some of the mattes have kick-up, there is no fallout. Remember to tap off the excess and it should work just fine.
Verdict
The Afterglow Tempting Eyeshadow Palette is an excellent execution of the "lavender haze" theme. These shades are well formulated, thoughtfully curated, and beautifully executed. The sparkly tones look magical in person, while the mattes are uber creamy and finely milled. While we may have seen similar colors before, Nars's execution is outstanding. If you love a good sparkle, some spicy neutrals, and a pop of lavender, this palette might be great for you. It is a beautiful choice for both beginners and professionals. Besides, the color story will look flattering on a wide range of skin tones. In short - this palette deserves all the love and I award it an A.
The Afterglow Tempting Eyeshadow Palette is a limited edition release, however, it is still available online. I list the retailers below. Prices may vary by region.
