About the Product
Dior Backstage Rosy Glow Stick (44 USD; Made in France) - is a collection of pH-activated creamy stick blushes. They claim to be buildable, long-lasting, and dewy.
Packaging: if you are familiar with the brand's Dior Addict Glow Balm (reviewed here), you might recognize the iconic design. The new stick blush is twice the size of the balm; it features a similar see-through cap and a twist-up "lipstick"-style bullet. The two products share everything except a few differences. The Rosy Glow Stick caps match the blush color, and each bullet contains 6g/ 0.21 oz of product. I love this design; it is recognizable, eye-catching, modern, and above all, practical.
Recyclable ♻️
Formula: the key selling point of the Rosy Glow Stick is that it is a pH-activated product. This means that the color will adapt to a person's skin, thus creating a custom shade. Sounds similar? Yes, the Dior Addict Glow Balm is likely the inspiration here.
😊 PROS
We look at skin-loving ingredients that are known for repairing, hydrating, and supporting the skin barrier. Namely Squalane (emollient), Sweet Cherry Seed Oil (antioxidants, fatty acids), Sunflower Seed Wax (hydration), and Beeswax (prevents moisture loss, protective). An honorable mention goes to Hydrogenated Polydecene and Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, both of which are excellent skin-conditioning emollients/emulsifiers.
☹️ CONS
On the "naughty list" we have got a few potential irritants including Peppermint Oil, Fragrance, and Propyl Galate (a controversial antioxidant preservative that can trigger an allergic reaction in some individuals). The silver lining is that, aside from fragrance, these ingredients appear at the very bottom of the list, suggesting a minimal use.
As someone with sensitive skin, I was relieved that the Rosy Glow Stick did not cause irritation or adverse reaction.
Shades 063 Pink Lilac and 012 Rosewood
Texture: creamy, smooth, and easy glide-on consistency.
Scent: sweet vanilla meets mint. Identical to that of the Dior Addict Glow Balm. The scent is mild and disappears relatively fast.
Shades: the Rosy Glow Stick is currently available in seven shades and two finishes. Some have a subtle pearlescent sheen, while others contain fine flecks of micro-glitter or shimmer. Shades correspond to those of the Dior Addict Glow Balm. So if you want to go all "matchy-matchy" and monochromatic, you can. The same goes for the brand's new matte Rosy Glow Powder Blush.
Shades 063 Pink Lilac and 012 Rosewood
🤔 WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?
Shade 103 Toffee has the highest amount of both pearlescence and glitter, almost resembling a highlighter. Avoid it if you don't want obvious shimmer. Shade 077 Candy is the most frosty/pealescent, while 063 Pink Lilac shows specks of fine pink shimmer when you blend it. 006 Berry sits somewhere in the middle, while 001 Pink, 012 Rosewood, and 015 Cherry have almost no pearl or shimmer.
Application: as with most cream-stick formulations, fingertips or synthetic brushes are your best friends. As for me, I prefer to prime my brush with the Rosy Glow Stick first and then blend it onto the skin. This method helps reduce the risk of patchiness or disturbing the base underneath. I do recommend keeping your skin well-exfoliated, because this formula can cling to drier texture and emphasize it, resulting in an uneven finish. Build up the color gradually, allowing each layer to set before adding more. On bare skin (over skincare alone), you can apply it straight from the bullet. On average, deeper shades might require more finessing.
Finish: radiant-dewy finish. The Rosy Glow Stick is quite glossy and light-reflective. It does not fully set, which is why initially it can feel a bit "wet" to the touch.
Shades 063 Pink Lilac and 012 Rosewood (Swatched vs. Blended)
Wear: to form a solid opinion on the formula, I put it through the ultimate test of surviving a number of vigorous workouts. The Rosy Glow Stick held up impressively well. Yes, it faded a bit, but the healthy flush remained and it did not slide around, get patchy, or leave a stain. While I did not really notice the pH-activation on myself, for a cream formula this product is still pretty long-lasting. If you want to lock it in place even more, add a matching Rosy Glow Powder Blush or any other powder blush you already own and love.
Verdict
It is raining blush - and I am here for it. Brands have been coming up with a plethora of excellent new formulations and this Dior creation is no exception. While the packaging was love at first sight, it took some experimenting to figure out the best way to use the Rosy Glow Stick. Overall, it is a wonderfully quick everyday blush that I am sure many beauty lovers will adore. Although I can't say much about the pH-activation (on me, these blushes tend to stay true to their original color), the wear time was still pretty impressive. I expected this blush to leave a light flattering stain - something similar to the Dior Addict Lip Glow Balm (reviewed here) - but even without said effect, it is still a beautiful product. If you are after an uber-radiant, healthy flush - look this way. It is an A from me.
