Caudalie Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum Review

SOS skincare to the rescue

Foreword

What do you do when your skin is not skinning? We all have those days (or weeks, or months) when the skin is unwilling to cooperate no matter what you do. After going through one of those "dark" phases recently, I reached out for my top SOS skincare picks, one of which is today's guest star.

My Skin: dry, sensitive

About the Product

Caudalie Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum (52 USD; Made in France) - is described as an acne-prone formula that tackles breakouts, pores, excess oils, and blackheads.

Packaging: true to the brand's aesthetic, we get a fully recyclable mattified glass bottle with a pump (that can be locked). The Vinopure range is known for its pastel green color. Here you get 30 ml/ 1 fl oz worth of product. I find this packaging quite hygienic and ergonomic.

Formula: this is a water-based formulation rich in natural, green ingredients such as Rose Flower Water (plumps, rejuvenates), Niacinamide (Vitamin B3 that improves skin's health and minimizes pores), Grape Seed Extract (antioxidant), Salicylic Acid (anti-inflammatory), Sodium Hyaluronate (hydration), Tocopherol (Vitamin E that moisturizes and protects skin from free radicals), Peppermint Oil (anti-inflammatory), and more.

😊 PROS

The highlighted trio of Salicylic Acid, Grape Polyphenols, and Niacinamide offers great benefits and effectively works towards a healthy skin balance.

☹️ CONS

You get a high level of Alcohol, which is commonly used as a solvent or penetration enhancer. On the flip side, it can be drying or irritating over time. There is also a smaller amount of essential oils present. Thankfully, with my dry skin, I have not experienced an adverse reaction to the formula. However, I still mention this for those of you, who can't tolerate the ingredients mentioned above.

Texture: watery gel texture. The Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum spreads and absorbs with ease. It applies and sets clear.

Scent: no added fragrance. This product does, however, have that (natural) signature Vinopure scent to it. I would describe it as fresh and green, with a hint of citrus and rose. It is very fine and does not linger.

Application: the Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum can be used both day and night. Once you have cleansed the skin, apply the product all over the face (and neck), avoiding the eye area. Alternatively, you can also use it as a targeted spot treatment. Make sure to opt for a water-based moisturizer (and makeup base, if you are wearing it) to avoid pilling.

first impression

Skin feels refreshed, soothed, and calmed. The redness is noticeably minimized. It does not sting nor burn.

long-term use

With daily use, the appearance of active breakouts is minimized quite rapidly. Pimples heal faster, leaving little to no spotting behind. At times, the skin might feel a bit dryer than usual (if you have a dry skin type to begin with), so I would recommend pairing this serum with a rich moisturizer. Something like the brand's VinoHydra Deep Hydration Moisturizer for example would be a good option. There are no dry patches or peeling skin in sight.

In some cases, when breakouts are more stubborn and reoccurring, I use the Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum in combination with the Vinopure Toner and the Vinopure Spot Treatment (reviewed here).

Verdict

The Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum is not a new product in my routine. As a matter of fact, it has a holy grail status as I have been using it since 2018. Most Salicylic Acid formulations can be harsh on sensitive skin, causing excessive peeling or dryness. The Vinopure range is truly fantastic in this regard, as it suits most skin types including the dry ones. It does its job of clearing, soothing, healing, and rejuvenating the skin without compromising the skin barrier. Whenever things go South, I reach out for it almost immediately, and it has been (by far) one of the quickest and most reliable methods of clearing hormonal breakouts. I wish Caudalie had some pimple patches for extra deep and angry spots, this would make the range complete in my opinion. Besides that, I think the Vinopure Skin Perfecting Serum is a fabulous product. I give it an A+.
