Winter Skin Saviors

Winter Skincare Saviors

A handful of products to rescue you from the winter blues

Foreword

For most of us winter time equals skin dryness and discomfort. Fear not my friends because I have got a few gems up my sleeve! In this post I will be sharing some of the tried-and-true products for both face and body that will help you survive through colder months of the year.

My Skin: dry, sensitive

Winter Skin Saviors

Weleda Skin Food Original Ultra-Rich Cream (18.99 USD; Made in Germany) – this little granny of a product turns 95 this year and it has been around for so long for all the right reasons. This is a potent, plant-blend cream (rich in Sweet Almond, Viola Tricolor, Rosmarinus extracts as well as Beeswax and Lanolin) that acts as a universal skin savior for both your body and face. My favorite way of using it is as an overnight sleep mask whenever I feel like my face is about to crack and fall off. Apply a good layer, wake up to baby smooth skin the next day; no exaggeration as it literally works this fast. What is even better – it never leaves a greasy film or extra product residue thus absorbing fully. Might not be the best option for underneath makeup or even as a daytime moisturizer (it can feel a touch sticky or look overly glowy), but as an 8-hour miracle worker, one that tackles tightness and discomfort, it is wonderful.

P.S. Skin Food has herbal, citrus scent that does not linger. It is also available in two versions: light and rich (depends on your skin type or preferences).

Winter Skin Saviors

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 (14.99 USD; Made in France) – if you are looking for a scent- and Lanolin-free, yet equally potent alternative to Skin Food, this French guy is the answer. This multipurpose balm is ideal for tackling all kinds of “rough skin” situations and it can be used during the day time as well as underneath makeup, creating a smooth canvas for anything else to be applied on top of it. It is a lot richer than a regular moisturizer, where little goes a long way, so do not get carried away with how much product you apply. Infused with Shea Butter, Panthenol, Spring Water and Glycerin – it provides a great source of instant hydration that is so comforting. Great for healing red marks or scarring. Available in a regular or SPF 50 version (win-win!).

Innisfree Olive Real Oil Mist (12 USD; Made in Korea) – the name of this product literally speaks for itself. Infused with extra virgin olive oil brought all the way from Crete Island, this product acts as a facial oil and toner in one. Now, I know some people might ask “well, won’t I look greasy after using it?” and the answer is no. Similarly to any other facial spray from the brand, this one too has an uber fine mist that creates an angelic cloud of moisture to rejuvenate and boost your skin with hydration and also Vitamin E. Can be used before serums and creams or throughout the day to soothe dry or dull skin.

Winter Skin Saviors

La Roche Posay Lipikar Body Lotion (20 USD; Made in France) – if you have extremely sensitive, irritated, dry or flaky skin, then Lipikar range of body lotions will change your life. Rich in Shea Butter, Glycerin and Rapeseed Oil – this formula will instantly nourish and calm your skin from the first application. Urea 5 version is particularly effective for people, who might suffer from Keratosis Pilaris (aka little angry bumps on arms or other body parts) as it has 5% Urea and Allantoin to speed up natural exfoliating process thus revealing hydrated and soft skin. This lotion has a very rich yet easy to work with creamy consistency that doesn’t feel heavy or sticky in the slightest; it gets absorbed in a matter of one-two minutes and keeps your body perfectly smooth all day long. One bottle will last you quite some time! My only gripe is that when you are close to finishing the product, the pump just can’t reach it. Since you can’t cut the bottle, you might want to get a little creative in order not to waste a week worth of lotion.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (22 USD; Made in Korea) – although it is technically labelled as a “night” lip treatment, I am here to convince you that you can use this balm all day long to battle dry, cracked or chapped lips. Good thing about this formula is that it is enriched with Vitamin C (mix of berries) and Shea Butter to ensure your pout stays perfectly plump and juicy all day or night long. You get a lot of product for the price; usually one little tub lasts me for about a year, so I don’t mind luxuriating in this whipped texture 24/7. Lip Sleeping Mask is available in a number of flavors that smell of delicious fruits or candy, yet in a very sophisticated (not artificial) way.
