Kosas Revealer Super Creamy Concealer, Review

Kosas Revealer Super Creamy Concealer Review

when you are always on the hunt for that perfect concealer

Foreword

Kosas, a relatively new company in the industry, has been taking the beauty community by storm. Naturally, as someone who is interested in all things new and promising, I decided to dive in and see what the hype was all about. In this post we will focus on the brand’s bestseller: Revealer Concealer.

My Skin: dry/sensitive; light-neutral complexion

Kosas Revealer Super Creamy Concealer Review

About the Product

Kosas Revealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer And Day-Time Eye Cream (28 USD; Made in USA) – is described as a mega creamy concealer and eye cream in one. It should brighten and correct, all while nourishing the skin.

Packaging: this beautiful design is definitely unique, modern and eye-catching. Everything about the concealer says “well made” (from the doe-foot applicator to the colorful lid). You get 6ml/ 0.20 oz of product.

Formula: Revealer Concealer has a creamy, smooth texture. As far as ingredients go, I have no complaints – you get Caffeine, Pink Algae, Peptides, Arnica and Panthenol. It is a water-based formula with a high amount of Glycerin in it, which explains why it is so hydrating. Sodium Hyaluronate and Squalane are listed towards the end of the ingredients’ list, so their actual content is not that high.

Not sure what to make of the “eye cream” claims. Personally, I still use my skincare (including an actual eye cream) underneath this product.

Scent: none detected or listed.

Finish: although Revealer Concealer appears quite dewy upon application, it does set to more of a natural skin-finish with a soft sheen. Medium coverage, that can be sheered out or built up when needed.

Application: this is truly one of those concealers that you can apply with your eyes closed. You can use any tools (sponge, brush, fingertips) and get equally great results. I have never, not even once, encountered any issues while applying this Kosas creation. Works well for both – brightening the under-eye area and covering discoloration anywhere else on the face.

Wear: mind you, I have dry skin, so I do not set this concealer with powder. Initially there is minor creasing (which happens with any other product when it settles into fine lines or creases), which I then fix by soaking up the residue with a miniature q-tip, brush or even my fingertip. When I check my Revealer Concealer after 6-8 hours, it still looks pretty good (coverage is in place, but the finish might appear more dewy as the day goes by). From my experience, it did not accentuate dryness, texture or pores.

Wearing shade 03. Natural daylight.

Shades: since I was buying this product online, it was a bit tricky to color-match myself. There are currently 28 shades available, split into undertones (warm, cool, neutral, olive). The shade I went for is 03, described as “light with subtle golden undertones”.

Now, my skin tone is neutral, however, my under-eye is reasonably darker. I have hereditary pandas, which do need color-correction and brightness. 03 is much warmer and yellow in tone compared to the concealer shades I typically gravitate towards. The reason why I picked it up – I didn’t really have many options. The only light shade with neutral undertones in the Revealer Concealer line was also described as olive and those hues would certainly not work for me. Alas, I haven’t found my perfect match, but I can make 03 work.

Who is going to like it

If you have a normal, combination or dry skin type and are on a hunt for a solid medium coverage concealer, look this way.

If you have an oily skin type, yet still want a radiant/natural skin finish concealer, you might enjoy this Kosas creation too. Add powder if needed.

If you are very dry, prep your skin with a hydrating eye cream and you should be good to go.

Great for both makeup beginners, pros and beauties of a particular age.

Verdict

My initial experience with Kosas is very positive: I am happy with my purchase and will look into trying more from the brand in the future. Having said that, there is one flaw (that I hope they will pay attention to) and that is the shade range. To be precise – the undertones. As someone, whose skin is neither too yellow nor too pink, I found it a bit difficult to get a perfect match. The shade I have can sometimes visibly differ in tone against my foundation or skin itself (when I wear the concealer alone), which is something that can be fixed by adding an extra shade, but ideally – who wants to spend double the price to get an exact color match? In 2021 this should be something offered to you as a customer from the get go. Overall, this is a beautiful product that I do recommend. I give Revealer Concealer A- (despite minor inconveniences).
