JVN Haircare, Review

JVN Haircare Review

"You have to create little pockets of joy in your life to take care of yourself"

Foreword

One of my goals this year is to take better care of my hair. You know how much heat we can put our locks through, right? Thankfully I got a chance to test three of JVN bestsellers, which sounded like Rapunzel's dream. In this post, we will find out whether they're truly worth the hype.

Conditioning Mist

JVN Complete Conditioning Mist Review

JVN Complete Conditioning Mist (18 USD; Made in USA) - is described as a lightweight leave-in conditioner that detangles and moisturizes hair.

The price point is fantastic considering the amount of product that you get (147 ml/ 5 fl oz). But before I get ahead of myself, let me say that I have never tried a product similar to this JVN creation. While I expected it to be more of a watery hair mist, it turned out to be a literal creamy conditioner in a spray form. It has a subtle scent that does not linger.

The Complete Conditioning Mist has a delightfully smooth consistency and a weightless feel to it. You can use it on wet or dry hair, depending on whether you want to hydrate or refresh it. Although it is infused with some oils (Tangerine, Jasmine) and extracts (Black Spruce, Tremella Mushroom) it feels silky and doesn't weigh your hair down or make it greasy. Hemisqualane is a highlighted ingredient, which is supposed to improve hair strength over time.

first impression

I like to spray the Complete Conditioning Mist into the palm of my hand first (as opposed to directly) to have an even product distribution across the hair. I use this product for smoothing purposes before styling. I find that it makes my hair instantly hydrated and soft.

long-term use

After frequently using this product as part of my hair styling routine for over a month now, I noticed that it helped me improve my hair styling game. I now achieve smoother blowouts in a shorter amount of time as opposed to when I was using other products. The best part? It does not weigh my fine hair down, glue it together or make it look sticky (like many leave-ins do).

final thoughts

If you were on the hunt for a lightweight yet hydrating leave-in to use by itself or before hair styling, you might enjoy the Complete Conditioning Mist. It helps with hair tangles and keeps your mane nice and soft. If you are an avid fan of hair tools, I would recommend keeping up with your weekly deep-conditioning hair masks to maintain healthy hair since this mist alone won't do the trick. All in all, this product is lovely for drier and frizzy hair types, and I give it B+.

Blowout Styling Milk

JVN Complete Blowout Styling Milk Review

JVN Complete Blowout Styling Milk (29 USD; Made in USA) - is described as a heat-activated styling cream that smoothes, adds style memory, and protects from humidity.

Unlike the Complete Conditioning Mist, here you are getting less product (90 ml/ 3 oz), however, if I had to compare the two I would say that the Complete Blowout Styling Milk is more of a grown-up, mature version of the mist. Besides many of its wonderful ingredients including Orchid Flower Extract, it generally has more bells and whistles to it. It offers up to 450F heat protection, is infused with Bionic Peptides (that protect hair cuticles), and provides hold thanks to Cassia Bark Style Polymer.

It feels creamier/richer than the Complete Conditioning Mist and on average you only need two pumps to cover your whole mid-end hair section. I love using it on damp hair and letting it "nap" for a few moments before styling. This milk has a lovely fragrance to it, the brand describes it as a mix of citrus fruits, honey, and flowers. In short: it reminds me of posh hair salons around Manhattan.

first impression

Hair has that salon-blowout bounce to it. It looks healthy and full of life. While I can't say much about frizz (I'll have to update this post during the summer months), I find that the Complete Blowout Styling Milk leaves my hair feeling a lot smoother than it normally is.

long-term use

While it was love at first sight, my feelings only grew stronger over time. It is safe to say I love this product more than any other styling milk I have tried in the past. I use it after every wash: even if I air-dry my hair it keeps my waves and curls nice and defined. I find that my hair now looks much healthier even with frequent hair styling as opposed to how it was before.

final thoughts

If you only plan to get one product from the line, get the Complete Blowout Styling Milk. Not only does it live up to the hype, but it is hands down the most intuitive hair styling product I have come across. It offers impressive heat protection, all while caring for the health of your hair. Extra points for substituting silicones with a better alternative such as Hemisqualane. A dreamy product for fine hair, I give it an A+.

Nourishing Shine Drops

JVN Complete Nourishing Shine Drops Review

JVN Complete Nourishing Shine Drops (24 USD; Made in USA) - is described as the brand's multitasking oil that reduces frizz, protects against damage, and adds a high-shine finish.

When I think about the brand as a whole, this bottle pops up in my head as it is the most luxurious-looking little oil that acts as an "icing on the cake" in terms of hair styling. You use Complete Nourishing Shine Drops as the very last step to add shine to your mane. And considering that you only need a few drops, one 50 ml/ 1.7 fl oz bottle is going to last you a very long time.

This oil is made with the same star ingredients as most JVN products (Hemisqualane, Hibiscus, and Meadowfoam to name a few). It also has that same citrusy-floral scent of the Complete Blowout Styling Milk. It is not too strong or overpowering, yet adds to an overall salon-like user experience.

first impression

This hair oil truly shines when it comes to adding final touches to your style. It adds a healthy glossiness, tames any frizzy bits, and doesn't leave your hair looking heavy. You might notice that this is something that stood out to me about the brand as a whole - all of the products are uber lightweight and user-friendly. Unless you go overboard with how much you use, it's hard to mess things up.

long-term use

I find that Complete Nourishing Shine Drops helped me with my drier hair ends a lot. Even with chlorine exposure (I am a swimmer) and frequent blow dries, my hair is a lot healthier compared to how it looked even a few months back. Now, to be fair, I do use hair masks and gentle shampoos/conditioners that help maintain a healthy balance. But it is hair styling products that really make it or break it, and this oil is definitely on the winning team.

final thoughts

Overall, I think Complete Nourishing Shine Drops aka hair oil is amazing. No heavy weight or greasiness, which is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to hair products as a whole. Adding a few drops to dried hair really makes all the difference. I find that using this oil in conjunction with the brand's Complete Blowout Styling Milk is the chef's kiss. I totally get why this product is already winning awards and if it sounds like something you might need in your routine, especially if your hair is on the drier/frizzier side, by all means, give it a shot. An A from me.
