About the Product
Good Molecules Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel (6 USD; 15ml/.50 fl oz; Made in Korea) - is described as an antioxidant-rich, energizing and lightweight eye gel that is supposed to hydrate and plump the skin.
Packaging: this eye gel comes in a portable, old-school, metallic/alluminium tube of a vibrant yellow color. Its colorful print reflects lively vibes and energy of Brazil and is designed by a São Paolo artist named Rafa Dejota. I find this packaging to be quite cute, convenient and hygienic.
Formula: the star ingredient here is certainly Yerba Mate Extract - a herbal tea rich in caffeine, polyphenols and antioxidants. It is a native plant of Brazil that Good Molecules source ethically, all while supporting local communities, pesticide-free farming and zero deforestation efforts.
This is essentially a water-based formula, that additionally has Glycerin, Panthenol, Caffeine and Hyaluronic Acid in it. Although it is formulated without fragrance, to me this eye gel still has a faint, fresh and sweet scent to it (which disappears once the product is applied). Perhaps this is what the actual plant smells like, I don't really know - but I do love it.
Texture: Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel has the loveliest, lightweight and cooling watery texture. The gel itself is clear, yet with a subtle hue to it.
Application: now, Good Molecules say that you can apply this eye gel both in the morning or at night. To me this is more of AM type of a product. It is mega refreshing and you only need the tiniest amount. Can be used underneath makeup as well; I did not detect any peeling or balling up of product when I wore this underneath my under-eye concealer.
Immediate Results: delicate under-eye skin feels hydrated, rejuvenated and happy. This gel absorbs well, without leaving a sticky/glossy film on the skin. Good, skin-calming choice when your under-eye is feeling sensitized after being exposed to sun, sea water or chlorine (if you do water sports).
Long-term Results: under-eye remains smooth and hydrated. I have noticed no difference in the appearance of my dark circles; as to be expected since mine are hereditary.
who is going to like it
If your under-eye is on a normal, combo or even oily side - you will truly enjoy a formula like this as it is lightweight, yet moisturizing enough to keep tightness and dryness at bay.
My under-eye is dry, so typically gel formulas do not work that well for me. However, Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel turned out to be an exception. It has been my AM option, but I still use more heavy-duty eye creams for my PM routine to thoroughly restore and "feed" the skin overnight.
If you have a very dry skin though, I am afraid this eye gel alone won't do the trick for you. Same for people, who look for anti-ageing properties in their eye products. You will need something more potent than this.
Great option for spring, summer months.
