About the Product

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (24 USD; Made in Korea) - is described as a leave-on lip mask that delivers intense moisture and antioxidants to help reveal smooth, plump lips.

Packaging: a simple yet colorful design. Each Lip Sleeping Mask is housed in a mattified plastic jar, containing 20 g/ 0.70 oz worth of product. Depending on the flavor/scent, the color/tint of the Lip Sleeping Mask will differ (yet the formula remains the same). Every jar comes with a mini spatula that you can use to pick up and apply the product.

Formula: the top ingredients here are various emollients, oil bases, organic polymers, and waxes. For this creation, Laneige opted for plant-derived silicone substitutes (like Dimer Dilinoleate), non-comedogenic Synthetic Wax, some Methicone (to give the product that smooth feel), and more.

😊 PROS

The formula is paraben-, phthalate-free. You get a higher concentration of Shea Butter (nourishment), Candelilla Wax (hydration), and Murumuru Seed Butter (soothing). Towards the end of the list (lower concentration) you see Coconut Oil (nourishment), Glycerin (occlusive layer), Pomegranate Fruit Juice (antioxidants), Raspberry Fruit Juice, and Grape Juice (rich in Vitamin C and Polyphenols).

☹️ CONS

This product is fragranced, which might be a deal-breaker for some people. From my experience (I have been using it for 5-6 years now) it never caused me any trouble.

Texture: smooth, buttery gel texture that melts upon application.

Scent: every Lip Sleeping Mask has a unique scent. The great thing about Laneige is that the brand will introduce new limited-edition scents now and again, so there is always something to choose from. On average they run on the sweet side (fruits, berries, or candy), but the fragrance is very light and does not linger. None of these have a taste.

Shades: depending on the flavor you choose, you will also get a differently colored Lip Sleeping Mask. So make sure to check the shade description on the brand's website or Sephora before placing your order. In my opinion, most of the shades run on a sheer side, thus adding a very light tint. Some of them would not work for the nighttime though, as they might leave a colored stain on your pillowcase (shades like Chocolate, Watermelon, Mango, etc.).

Application: the suggested use is at night. You apply as much product as you need and go to bed. The Lip Sleeping Mask soothes and hydrates your lips right off the bat. It also leaves a beautiful glossy sheen. I use mine during the day too, since my lips can get very dry. I love this mask underneath or on top of lipstick. The shine that you get is fabulous, especially if you want that "wet" look.

first impression

Lips feel moisturized and soothed. You wake up with the smoothest, plumpest pout.

long-term use

Even in between uses, lips feel and look baby-soft with little to no dryness. After I started using my Lip Sleeping Mask daily, I found that my lips became so smooth, that I no longer needed to exfoliate or scrub them.

Wear: when used at night, the Lip Sleeping Mask works for at least 8 hours. The top layer might disappear, but your lips will still feel cushioned and hydrated. When used during the day, the mask will come off after eating. However, the feeling of well-moisturized lips remains.

Verdict

Lip care is an essential part of anybody's skincare routine. Especially if you often get dry or chapped lips, a good lip mask is a must-have. I have to admit that after many years of reviewing and testing products, I still go back to the Lip Sleeping Mask by LaneigeAt this point, I must have gone through a dozen of these little guys. So much so, that I keep at least three or five of them on rotation. There is one in every room (and as I type this, there is one inside my desk as well). I often get compliments on how soft and smooth my lips look and it is all thanks to this little miracle worker. I use it when I travel and it is a life-savior for long-haul flights. Even though these masks cost more than something from the drugstore for example, they also last a long time, which makes them worth the investment. A++ from me.
