About the Product
Laura Mercier Caviar Tightline Eyeliner (28 USD; Made in Germany) is a next-generation eyeliner that delivers precision, easy application, and long-lasting wear with no smudges or creasing. As you may know, this line is an extension of the best-selling Caviar Stick Eye Shadow, which you can read more about here.
Packaging: sleek, dark grey coloring with a gunmetal plastic cap. Every pencil feels light and comes with a color-matching bottom. You get 1.2g/ 0.04 oz worth of product. A sharpener is not included.
Formula: unlike some of the eyeliner pencils of the past, the Caviar Tightline Eyeliner is infused with some skin-loving ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides, and plant-based extracts to ensure comfortable wear and smooth application. These eyeliners are safe to use all around the eye area, as well as a water line.
Shades (first image/left to right): Bronze, Bleu Marine, Cocoa, Tuxedo
Shades (second image/left to right): Cocoa, Bronze, Tuxedo, Bleu Marine
Texture: no matter the finish (matte or shimmer), the Caviar Tightline Eyeliner feels smooth and glides on with ease. Some shades are not fully opaque but can get there with two layers.
Application: this Laura Mercier creation proved to be as user-friendly as possible. You can use your Caviar Tightline Eyeliner in a plethora of ways. Whether you want to accentuate your lash line, create an elongated cat eye, or add some dimension to your water line - you will achieve beautiful results. This formula plays well with other makeup products (be it cream or powder form).
I would recommend keeping your pencils sharpened and using fine eyebrushes for detailed work. While eye primer is optional, I would still suggest using one if your lids are on the hooded or oily side. You can also layer a matching powder shadow on top for an extra smokey effect. This way you will lock your liner in place. Once the Caviar Tightline Eyeliner sets, it does not budge. It is best to work one eye at a time.
Swatches (left to right): Tuxedo, Bleu Marine, Cocoa, Bronze
Wear: the brand's description of these eyeliner pencils seems to be pretty spot on. The Caviar Tightline Eyeliner does not budge, smudge, or move around. The longest I have had it on was 8-10 hours and minor fading aside, my liner stayed intact.
Shades: currently, the range includes seven universally flattering shades. The ones you see in this post are Tuxedo (matte black), Bleu Marine (satin navy blue with some purple micro-shimmer), Cocoa (matte, warm red-brown), and Bronze (shimmery antique bronze). While I enjoy them all, I must admit that if I had to choose only one, I would go with Cocoa. It is the most gorgeous brown that will make any eye color pop. Can it get any better? Layer it with Dark Cacao Caviar Stick Eye Shadow and you will get the most perfect brown of the season.
who is going to love it
If you like a versatile, easy-to-use eyeliner pencil (one that you can apply lightly or layer for more impact), I have a feeling you will enjoy The Caviar Tightline Eyeliner. It works well for sensitive eyes and can be incorporated into a variety of looks (from desk to disco, you are the queen here).
Verdict
Being a huge fan of the brand's Caviar Stick Eye Shadow line, I had high hopes for these pencils. After all, they were created to complement each other. I have been testing the Caviar Tightline Eyeliner all summer long and have to say that I am in awe of this formula. It does not matter what look you have in mind, you will easily achieve it with this Laura Mercier creation. From my experience, these are some of the most intuitive and effortless eyeliners. Even after a long day of wearing makeup, they do not make the eye feel itchy or dry. The shade selection is smart since these are the colors most of us use daily. In my opinion, this is a lovely addition to the Caviar family, and it deserves an A rating.
