Intro: Life in Reno

Hi guys, my name is Jill! I’m so excited to be a guest writer on Naya’s blog as I’ve been an avid reader for many years! I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. I am deeply passionate about skincare, makeup, and everything beauty. To me, beauty is not about perfectionism. It’s about taking care of myself with skincare and expressing myself with makeup. Basically, when it comes to beauty, it’s all about relaxation and fun!

About Reno, Nevada

My hometown of Reno is nicknamed “the biggest little city in the world” because we’re a city with a small town vibe. I love Reno because it is located right next to the Sierra Nevada mountains and beautiful Lake Tahoe. There are lots of hiking trails around the city and I spend most of my summers sunbathing on the beaches of Tahoe. Reno has a very dry desert climate that deeply influences my skincare routine and beauty ritual.

Krave Beauty The Beet Shield

I know sunscreen is most people’s least favorite skincare product, but it is truly one of my favorite steps in my skincare routine! I switched to Korean sunscreens about five years ago and I’ll never go back. Korean sunscreens have a lightweight, non-greasy texture that feels delightful on the skin. Sunscreen is my favorite skincare product because it has such powerful anti-aging properties. It protects skin from sun damage and future signs of aging like dark spots and fine lines.

I love the Krave Beauty beet shield sunscreen because it leaves the most beautiful dewy glow on the skin! The weather here in Reno is very sunny for the most part so I need a good sunscreen for everyday wear whether it’s for a summer day at Tahoe or a snowy walk through the forest. The beet shield sunscreen uses beet extract which is filled with antioxidants that help protect the skin from environmental pollution. This sunscreen works really well for makeup prep because of its moisturizing and glowy formula.

PibuWang Calming Mask

I love using sheet masks throughout the week because they help boost moisture in my skin. I have naturally dry skin so the climate does me no favors! Sheet masks help me unwind after long days in front of the computer. I’ve been loving these PibuWang calming masks lately because they are soothing for redness and irritation. These masks feel so refreshing upon application and stay moist for a long time. I love the brand because the cat on the packaging is the CEO’s rescue cat! The brand is also vegan and cruelty free which is a major bonus.

Innisfree Ginger Honey Cream

When I originally saw Naya’s review of the Innisfree Ginger Honey Cream, I knew I had to try it for myself. I have such dry skin (basically my personality is having dry skin lol) so I rely on thick moisturizers to keep my skin hydrated since humidity is non existent here in the desert. This cream has the most dreamy smooth texture that works so well for my skin day and night.

Vaseline Healing Jelly

Back in the fall, I started using Vaseline as the last step of my skincare routine at night. This process is called slugging and it helps prevent transepidermal water loss overnight. Slugging has been such a game changer for my dry skin. I use a pea sized amount of Vaseline over my moisturizer at night and I wake up with soft glowing skin in the morning.

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Cream

As a big fan of the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb, I knew I had to try the new Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Cream. I usually stick to neutral lip colors, but I decided to go out of my comfort zone with this jammy color called “Fruit Snackz”. This lip gloss formula is delightfully pigmented and hydrating on the lips. Because the climate here is so dry, it’s no surprise that my lips are dehydrated like my skin so I always opt for hydrating lip products like lip gloss. I will definitely be purchasing more colors because one can never have too much Fenty gloss.

Many thanks to Jill for sharing her Reno beauty must-haves with us
