Time to shake things up a bit
Don't get me wrong - as much as I love a good neutral-toned eyeshadow palette - lately I've been craving something fun, bright and colourful. I am not sure whether it is my way of coming out of winter stagnation or modern 80s makeup trends are to blame, but the minute I got my hands on Tarteist PRO Remix Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette, I knew I was onto something good. Let me tell you what - there is more to this palette than meets the eye.
About the Product
Tarteist PRO Remix Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette (49 USD; Made in USA) is a newer addition to the brand's Tarteist PRO line. You might remember the very first Tarteist PRO Amazonian Clay Palette - an [almost] all-matte eyeshadow palette, that offered a selection of colourful neutrals and four high-shine duo-chromes. While the original was a total matte must-have a few years back, the "remixed" version couldn't be more 2019: it is vibrant, bold and artistic.
Packaging: if you are familiar with Tarte Cosmetics, then you know that this packaging is like nothing we've seen from the brand before. Right on the very front you have a large lenticular motion card sticker with splashes of multi-coloured paint all over it. The interior is just as artsy and I really like how the brand kept original "black and gold" elements here. You also get a large high-quality mirror, which is absolutely perfect and considering this palette's portable size and weight, it would make a great travel-buddy too.
Please click on images to zoom in; as always - all of my swatches are unedited and raw (no added brightness, saturation or primers here, baby)
Formula: something I truly love about the brand's eyeshadows is the fact that they are free of parabens and other well-known nasties; this formula is also both cruelty- and gluten-free (yay!). These shadows do have that signature vanilla-cacao scent, which I adore (boosts my serotonin levels right away). Now, I have tried a ton of Tarte Cosmetics palettes in the past and while I am a fan of their Tartelette range, certain limited-edition palettes were either a hit or miss for me. I was not sure what to expect from this newer release, but here is the tea: there is not a single dud in Tarteist PRO Remix Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette.
You get a few different finishes here (matte, metallic, shimmer and even "floating glitter") and none of them were chalky, chunky, dry or hard to work with. Metallics in particular have the most amazing quality - they feel buttery smooth and pack a punch in terms of pigmentation. Every single colour is well blended and finely milled. Even two matte-meets-glitter shades (which I typically do not like at all) were surprisingly extra smooth and not even remotely dry.
Colours: as you can already tell, this palette offers a selection of both cool- and warm-tones. I like that the brand gave us three must-have mattes (flesh-toned nude, neutral-toned transition shade and black), however, I do wish there was an extra warm-toned matte instead of one of the coppers (we have two and they are extremely similar). I also do not see why we need three silvers, so it would be even better if we'd get at least one lovely matte coral, hot pink or orange instead. That would instantly take this palette to a whole new [awesome] level.
My favourite shades in Tarteist PRO Remix Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette are: Art Deco, Color Explosion, Outside the Lines, Graffiti, Mashup and Create.
Application: while most shades here apply like a dream and deliver 100% pigmentation, I would still recommend using a good eye primer to avoid creasing and if you really want to make shadows like Mashup, Create, Graphic or Beat Drop POP!- then it is best to use a dark-toned cream shadow/primer underneath them. I love my Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Shadow pencils in Plum, Cocoa or Tuxedo - dark colours like that instantly add more life to any purples, duo-chromes or glitters (review here). You can alternatively wet your brush with a setting spray or water to get the most out of your eyeshadow. I did not experience a lot of fall-out with this palette, just a few little drops here and there, which is totally fine. Don't be afraid to use your fingertips to apply metallics - they will glide on like a dream.
One of the most magical things about this palette is that all of the colours here mix and blend incredibly well together; even if you layer red on top of purple, on top of green, on top of gold or blue - you'll get the most amazing finish, where various colours literally melt into each other.
Wear: something very impressive about these shadows is just how long-wearing they are. Most of the time bright shades like purples and greens tend to wear off or noticeably fade throughout the day; well not in this case. These bad boys will stay put all day, especially with a darker base - they will hang out on your eyelids for a really long time. From my experience I did not experience any skin staining, which is fabulous.
This is one of my favourite Tarteist PRO Remix Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette looks; I am wearing a mix of Mashup, Create, Color Explosion, Outside the Lines, Graffiti, Moonlit, Ink, Art Deco and Wall Art all thrown together in order to achieve that multi-dimensional, modern 80s vibe.
After what seemed like a turbulent year for the brand, Tarte Cosmetics came back with a great new eyeshadow palette, which will help unleash your inner creative genius if you let it. You can create a plethora of looks using this palette alone or in conjunction with any of your favourite neutral-toned eyeshadows. This palette is incredibly user-friendly, so you don't need some fancy tools or skills to make it work - it is pretty straightforward in that sense. My biggest tip here - just have fun with Tarteist PRO Remix Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette and see where your creativity takes you! If you like the colour story here, then definitely check it out during your next trip to Sephora; other than that - A from moi.
I will be definitely sharing more looks using this palette on my Instagram, so make sure to join the fam (we're a friendly bunch) to see more.
