If there is a product, which claims to solve a "panda eye" situation, I am certainly among the first (desperate) people to try it. You see, I have been a human-panda for as long as I can remember myself and it is nearly impossible to find a product that truly helps. In this post we are going to talk about Tony Moly's cutest little Panda's Dream So Cool Eye Stick and see whether it actually works or not.
About The Product
As you might already know, Tony Moly is a very popular beauty brand from South Korea, which is now available at Sephora (Middle East). A distinctive feature of the brand is perhaps the World's cutest packaging: it is quirky, fun and a bit childish (in a good way though). Panda's Dream So Cool Eye Stick comes in this adorable mini panda-tube and contains following ingredients:
Purified water, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Stearate, Ethanol, Xylitol, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Glycerin, PEG-8, BIS-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Niacinamide, Sodium Citrate, Dimethicone, Adenosine, Actinidia Extract, Seawater, Bambusa Vulgaris Shoot Extract, Bambusa Vulgaris Sap Extract, Glacial water, Potassium Alginate, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Xanthan Gum, Citric acid, Steareth-20, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, N-Hydroxysuccinimide, Chlorhexidine Digluconate, Potassium Sorbate, Chrysin, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Tropolone, Perfume, FD&C Blue 1(E133), Phenoxyethanol, Complex Component Holoxyl
Texture & Application
As the name suggests, this is a cooling eye product. Sephora labels it as a "serum", but to me it is more of a solid gel, which has a very lightweight texture. This gel is shaped as a retractable stick and is very portable. It is, however, quite small and contains only 8 grams / 0.3 oz of the actual product. If you plan on using it on a daily basis, there is a high chance that you will run out of it in about two months or so. The product is best applied straight from the bullet and can be used around an entire eye area (make sure not to apply it too close to your tear duct though).
Effect & Results
Thankfully this product has a barely there scent and "cooling" sensation itself does not irritate a very delicate skin around the eyes. It does last for about 5-10 minutes and then you can't really feel it anymore. Tony Moly recommends using this product whenever your eyes feels tired, puffy or dry. The brand also claims that this product will smooth fine lines; even though I don't have noticeable fine lines yet, I highly doubt that this gel would be able to minimize their appearance simply because the formula is too watery and lightweight to do that in first place. Once applied, you can't even feel it to the touch, let alone see it.
In order to give you my most objective review, I did use Panda's Dream for a month before even beginning to write this article. Even though I have dark circles, my eyes rarely get puffy. But when they did (throughout the probation month) I was extremely happy, because that meant that I could really put Tony Moly's eye stick to the test. Now applying this eye gel first thing in the morning is unbelievably pleasant, especially if your eyes tend to feel heavy when you wake up - you will really enjoy it and maybe even get addicted to the cooling effect this product gives. Applying it around somewhat puffy eye area is also pretty nice, but I can't really say that my bags or lids looked less swollen. The puffiness did go away over the course of day, but it wasn't something miraculous or instant if you know what I mean.
Now here is a fun fact. Even though panda's head is an essential part of the packaging, Tony Moly doesn't claim that this product will help you get rid of dark circles or conceal them for that matter. It is just a soothing eye gel, which feels fabulous, but I did not really see any improvement in the appearance of my skin over time. It is, however, a great little eye product for those of you, who have a slightly oilier undereye area with no visible signs of ageing. In that case Panda's Dream will add a nice little layer of hydration, without being too much/heavy. If you have dry undereye (like moi) then this product alone won't be enough: that is with and without make-up. Also if you tend to use correctors/concealers under the eye, I would recommend using a more hydrating/nourishing eye cream first and only apply Panda's Dream right before you sit down to do your make-up for that nice, cooling effect to perk you up.
Even though some might assure you that this product will help you get rid of dark circles - from my research Tony Moly never promised or claimed that it would, so make sure to keep that in mind before buying this eye gel. Is it pleasant and addictive? Yes. Does it hydrate and help de-puff your eyes? To a certain extent. Is it a life saviour for people with a dark undereye? Probably not, but it sure is hella cute and refreshing. I guess what I am trying to say is - Panda's Dream is neither great nor bad. Judging from what it looks like and the effect it has, I think this is a product geared towards a younger audience, I am sure make-up beginners will fall head over heels in love with it. I don't think that it will be effective enough for those of you, who have particular undereye concerns such as fine lines, dryness or even same old dark circles. Yet if you love "cooling" products - Panda's Dream is absolutely amazing and will sure help you feel refreshed and awake in the morning or even at night!
